Portugal has not always been a Republic. It was a kingdom until the beginning of the 20th century, exactly one hundred years ago.
The establishment of the Republic in Portugal happened in October 5 1910. To mark this important historic date, the students of the 4th year A and of the 3rd year D joined together to present a debate between monarchists and republicans.
A group of students was representing the Monarchy and the other group was representing the Republican Party. The students were dressed according to the group and the historic period they were representing. It was very interesting to remark the commitment with which they recreated such an important event for our country.
To end this Memorial Day, a group of military personnel were at our school, conducting a military ceremony that ended with the raising of the Portuguese flag and the singing of the National Hymn.
